How They Work

For more than 30 years, we have manufactured clinically accurate, FDA-registered medical devices that require no cleaning, calibration, or batteries. Manufactured in the United States, our products proudly serve health care providers and patients both domestically and worldwide.

About Medical Indicators Thermometers

Our products maintain accuracy of ± 0.2°F. Strict controls ensure product conformity to ASTM specifications.
The thermometers are thin plastic strips of material with an encapsulated matrix of non-toxic chemical dots at one end. Each dot on the matrix represents a specific temperature that changes the dots from green to black when specific chemical temperature points are met.
We manufacture and ship our products directly from our Hamilton, New Jersey facility.

Oral Temperature Readings

Note: Wait at least 15 minutes before taking temperature when patient has been exposed to cold weather, smoking, eating, or drinking.

1. Open Package

Peel back top of wrapper to expose the handle of the thermometer and remove by pulling.

2. Insert Thermometer

Place in mouth under tongue, as far back as possible into either heat pocket, as you would any oral thermometer. The dots can face either up or down.

3. Wait 60 Seconds

Have patient press tongue down on the thermometer while keeping mouth closed. Leave in mouth for a minimum of 1 minute – shorter times may give inaccurate readings.

4. Read Temperature

Remove thermometer. The last black dot indicates the correct temperature. The above temperature shows 98.6°F. Be sure to record the temperature reading as the thermometer will reset after 60 seconds.

Armpit Temperature Readings

1. Open Package

Peel back top of wrapper to expose the handle of the thermometer and remove by pulling.

2. Insert Thermometer

Place thermometer high in the armpit with the dot side against the torso and parallel to the length of the body.

3. Wait 3 Minutes

Use the patient's arm to hold the thermometer in place for at least 3 minutes (longer times will not affect accuracy).

4. Read Temperature

Remove thermometer. The last black dot on the thermometer indicates the correct temperature. The above temperature shows 98.6°F. Be sure to record the temperature reading as the thermometer will reset after 60 seconds.
